Popular television actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested in Pune on rape charges, according to police reports. The arrest follows allegations made by a woman who claims Kapoor sexually assaulted her at a house party in Delhi in August.
According to authorities, the woman and Kapoor connected on Instagram. Kapoor then invited her to a party at a friend's residence where the alleged assault occurred. An FIR was initially filed on August 11th, naming Kapoor, his friend, the friend's wife, and two unknown individuals. However, the woman later revised her statement, alleging that only Kapoor was responsible for the rape. She also claimed the incident was recorded, though police have not yet found any such video. The woman further stated that Kapoor's friend's wife assaulted her after the alleged incident.
Police reports indicate that after the alleged assault in Delhi, Kapoor's movements were tracked to Goa and then Pune, where he was eventually apprehended. DCP (North) Raja Banthia confirmed Kapoor's arrest in Pune.
Investigations also revealed that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts corroborate that the victim and Kapoor entered the washroom together during the party. After a significant amount of time passed, other party attendees began knocking on the door. This led to an argument that continued until outside the residence.
Ashish Kapoor, 40, is known for his roles in television shows such as "Dekha Ek Khwaab," "Love Marriage," "Pratigya 2," "Nandini," "Woh Apna Sa," "Bandini," "Saraswatichandra," and "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai".
