Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Members of Parliament to organize 'Swadeshi Melas' to promote products made in India. This initiative aims to bolster the 'Make in India' campaign and encourage the consumption of locally produced goods.
In a meeting held on Monday, September 8, 2025, Modi emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous products and fostering economic growth within the country. He urged the MPs to take the lead in organizing these 'Swadeshi Melas' in their respective constituencies, creating a platform for local artisans, manufacturers, and businesses to showcase their products. The Prime Minister suggested that the 'Swadeshi Mela' be organized between Navratri and Diwali.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of holding meetings with traders to discuss the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cuts. He noted that the GST rate cuts implemented by the government have created a positive wave, and the MPs should capitalize on this momentum by educating traders and businesses about the advantages of the revised tax structure.
The call for 'Swadeshi Melas' aligns with the government's broader vision of creating a self-reliant India, or 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. By promoting local products and businesses, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on foreign goods, boost domestic manufacturing, and generate employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister's emphasis on GST rate cuts also underscores the government's commitment to simplifying the tax system and making it more business-friendly. By engaging with traders and addressing their concerns, the government hopes to foster a more conducive environment for economic growth and investment.
In addition to promoting 'Swadeshi Melas' and engaging with traders, Modi also shared insights from the 'Sansad Karyashala', a two-day workshop organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party for MPs. The workshop provided a platform for MPs to share their views on various issues, including GST reforms. Modi also shared his "mantra" to MPs at the BJP Workshop which included a Tiffin Meet and Singapore's Cleanliness.
