A shocking incident unfolded in Pune on Sunday night, September 7, 2025, when a man attacked a bouncer outside a restaurant after being denied entry. The event occurred at approximately 9:30 PM outside Elephant & Co. Restaurant and Bar in the Kalyani Nagar area.
The altercation began as a verbal dispute between a group of young individuals and the restaurant staff. The situation escalated when the bouncers refused entry to the group, leading to a physical confrontation. According to reports, Akhil Ashok Kumar, 27, a resident of Vadgaonsheri, along with his friend Kyle Edward Cummins, 24, a resident of Pirangut, Mulshi Taluka, were attempting to enter the establishment. The restaurant was reportedly crowded, with a significant waiting list.
Kumar, allegedly inebriated, purportedly tried to force his way into the restaurant. When Mayur Madhukar Phadtare, 27, a resident of Pune and a bouncer at the establishment, denied him entry, Kumar allegedly attacked him. The two exchanged blows before restaurant management and others intervened to de-escalate the situation.
Videos of the incident quickly surfaced and went viral on social media, capturing the chaotic and aggressive behavior outside the restaurant. The Yerawada Police responded to the scene and brought the situation under control. Phadtare filed a complaint at the Yerawada Police Station, leading to a case being registered against Kumar and Cummins. The charges include sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Initial reports suggest the man was with underage people and was heavily drunk after coming from another bar. When entry was denied, the man started the fight. The bouncers and staff remained in defense and called the police.
