Samaira and Kiaan, the children of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and the late businessman Sunjay Kapur, have filed a suit in the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share in their father's estate, estimated to be worth ₹30,000 crore. The legal action challenges the validity of a will presented by their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, whom the children accuse of forgery and manipulation.

Sunjay Kapur, the former chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12, 2025, in London, due to a cardiac arrest while playing polo. His death has triggered a bitter dispute over his vast estate. Samaira and Kiaan performed his last rites.

The core of the legal battle revolves around a will, purportedly executed on March 21, 2025, which allegedly bequeaths Sunjay Kapur's entire personal estate to his widow, Priya Kapur. The children, represented by their mother Karisma Kapoor as their legal guardian, contend that they were never informed about this will and that Priya Kapur had initially denied its existence. They claim that the will was presented to them under suspicious circumstances more than seven weeks after their father's death, raising serious doubts about its authenticity. The children have not yet seen a copy of the will despite repeated requests.

In their suit, Samaira and Kiaan have requested the court to declare them as Class I legal heirs and grant them a one-fifth share each in their father's assets. They are seeking a partition of the estate, a rendition of accounts, and a permanent injunction against the defendants to prevent the transfer or disposal of any property. The suit also seeks a direction for Priya Sachdeva to disclose on oath the status of Sunjay Kapur's estate as of the date of his death, along with any actions taken thereafter.

The defendants in the case include Priya Kapur and her minor son with Sunjay Kapur, Sunjay Kapur's mother Rani Kapur, and Shradha Suri Marwah, who claims to be the executor of the contested will.

Adding another layer to the family tensions, Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, has also voiced concerns about Priya Kapur's growing influence and has alleged that she was pressured into signing documents. She has questioned the official account of her son's death, hinting at a possible conspiracy and urging UK authorities to investigate.

Prior to his death, Sunjay Kapur had made provisions for his children, allotting bonds worth ₹0.14 billion ($1.68 million) to each and ensuring a monthly income of ₹1 million ($12,000) each. Karisma Kapoor was also given ownership of a family property previously held by Sunjay's father.

The market cap of Sona Comstar is close to Rs 30,000 crore, and 72% of its shares are held by the public, and 28% (Rs 8,200 crore) of its shares are held by its corporate promoter, Aureus Investments Private Limited. Following Sunjay Kapur's death, Priya Sachdev Kapur now manages the trust’s interests and was appointed as a non-executive director of Sona Comstar's board in July.

The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear the matter.
