The children of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor, have recently filed a suit in the Delhi High Court seeking a share in the property of their late father, Sunjay Kapur. Sunjay Kapur, who passed away in June 2025 at the age of 53, reportedly died of a heart attack while playing polo in the UK. Some reports suggest he may have swallowed a bee, triggering the fatal event.

The legal action initiated by Karisma Kapoor on behalf of her children has brought to light details regarding Sunjay Kapur's assets and alleged plans for his family's future. The suit accuses Priya Kapur, Sunjay's third wife and stepmother to Samaira and Kiaan, of forging Sunjay's will to usurp control of his assets. The children are seeking to be recognized as Class I legal heirs to their father's personal assets, claiming a one-fifth share each. This legal battle is separate from their inheritance from the RK Family Trust.

According to the plea, Sunjay Kapur had expressed to Karisma and their children his intention to secure their financial future. He allegedly discussed acquiring assets in Europe and obtaining Portuguese citizenship for them, citing tax benefits. The lawsuit claims that Sunjay took his son to the UK in July of last year to show him parcels of land he was acquiring. Documentation related to the Portuguese citizenship application was purportedly sent to Sunjay's representative on June 7, 2025.

Sunjay Kapur's personal life was often in the headlines. His first marriage was to designer Nandita Mahtani, followed by his highly publicized marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003. After a tumultuous divorce in 2016, he married Priya Sachdev in 2017. He had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, with Karisma Kapoor, and a son named Azarias with Priya Sachdev.

Before his death, Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a major auto components company founded by his father. The company has a market capitalization of approximately ₹31,000 crore (nearly $4 billion). Sunjay's personal net worth was estimated at ₹13,000 crore (about $1.6 billion).

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Priya Sachdev regarding the lawsuit filed by Karisma Kapoor's children. The children's plea highlights the lack of transparency surrounding the alleged will, which surfaced more than seven weeks after Sunjay's death. They argue that their father consistently provided for their needs, from education to personal and travel expenses. They were shocked by his unexpected death.

Sunjay Kapur's sudden demise has triggered a complex legal battle over his estate. The outcome of the suit will determine the inheritance rights of his children and the validity of the alleged will.
