The recent death of businessman Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, has triggered a complex inheritance battle involving his children, Samaira and Kiaan. While some reports initially focused on a potential inheritance of ₹30,000 crore (approximately $3.7 billion), the precise details of the estate and the children's claims are now unfolding in the Delhi High Court.

Sunjay Kapur, who was the chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12, 2025, in the UK, reportedly due to a heart attack while playing polo. His death has led to a dispute over his assets, primarily between his children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor and his current wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Samaira and Kiaan have filed a suit in the Delhi High Court, challenging a will allegedly drafted by their father on March 21, 2025, which leaves his entire estate to his wife, Priya. The children claim the will is forged and fabricated, and they seek to be recognized as legal heirs to their father's personal assets. They are asking for a one-fifth share each of all movable and immovable properties and have requested the court to prevent any transfer or disposal of assets from Sunjay's estate.

Adding another layer to the dispute, Sunjay's mother, Rani Kapur, has also voiced concerns, alleging that she was pressured into signing documents after her son's death and questioning the circumstances surrounding his demise. She has claimed that the cause of death was wrongly labeled as cardiac arrest.

Priya Sachdev Kapur, on the other hand, maintains the validity of the will. Her lawyer has stated that the will was not registered but argues that it makes no difference. The lawyer also revealed that Sunjay's children received assets worth ₹1,900 crore (approximately $228 million) just five days before the lawsuit was filed. This suggests that the children may have already received a substantial amount from their father's estate.

Despite the ₹1,900 crore claim, the children's lawyer has highlighted the exclusion of Samaira and Kiaan from the will as the most suspicious aspect. The lawyer urged the court to freeze any sale or alteration of assets until the matter is resolved.

Beyond the immediate dispute over the will, Sunjay Kapur's wealth is tied to the RK Family Trust, which controls Sona Comstar, an auto components manufacturer. Following Sunjay's death, Priya Sachdev Kapur manages the trust's interests and their son, Azarius, inherits a share.

It's important to note that Karisma Kapoor's children had already been provided for financially, even before Sunjay Kapur's death. Each child was allotted bonds worth ₹0.14 billion (approximately $1.68 million) and receives a monthly income of ₹1 million (approximately $12,000). Karisma Kapoor was also given ownership of a family property. The current lawsuit filed by the children is separate from what they are expected to inherit from the RK Family Trust.

The Delhi High Court is now tasked with examining the validity of the will and determining the rightful heirs to Sunjay Kapur's personal assets. The case highlights the complexities of inheritance disputes and the emotional toll they can take on families.
