Actress Mohini has recently spoken out about a distressing experience early in her career, alleging that she was pressured into performing intimate scenes and wearing a swimsuit in the 1994 Tamil film Kanmani, directed by RK Selvamani, without her consent.

Mohini, a popular actress in the 1990s known for her versatile performances across various South Indian film industries, revealed that she was deeply uncomfortable with a swimming suit sequence planned by director RK Selvamani. In an interview with Aval Vikatan, she recounted how she "cried and refused" to do the scene, leading to the shooting being halted for half a day. She explained that she didn't know how to swim and felt uneasy about learning half-dressed in front of male instructors, as female instructors were practically nonexistent at the time. Mohini felt she was being "forced" into the sequence.

Despite her initial refusal and emotional distress, Mohini eventually gave in to the pressure so that the film production would not be stalled. She worked for half a day to complete the scene as requested. However, when the filmmakers wanted to reshoot the same scene in Ooty, she firmly refused. When informed that the shoot would be canceled, she stated that it was not her problem, as she had already been forced to do it once.

Mohini noted that Kanmani was the only film where she appeared "overly glamorous" against her will. She acknowledged that "sometimes things happen against one's will, and this sequence was one such instance". While she found her role in Kanmani "very beautiful and challenging," she expressed disappointment that the film never received the recognition it deserved.

Mohini's revelation sheds light on the pressures and uncomfortable situations some actors, particularly women, faced in the film industry. Her experience highlights the importance of consent and respect for actors' boundaries during filming.
