The family of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur is embroiled in a legal battle over his estate, estimated to be worth ₹30,000 crore. At the center of the dispute are Sunjay's children with his former wife, actress Karisma Kapoor – Samaira and Kiaan – who have challenged the validity of his will in the Delhi High Court. The children allege that the will, which surfaced after their father's death, excludes them from their rightful inheritance and grants complete control of the assets to Sunjay's third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Adding a new dimension to the case, Sunjay Kapur's sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, has voiced her support for Karisma Kapoor's children. Mandhira stated that she finds it "bizarre" that Samaira and Kiaan have been cut off from the will, considering their close relationship with their father. She welcomed the Delhi High Court's directive for Priya Kapur to disclose a comprehensive list of Sunjay's assets, expressing hope that it would bring clarity and transparency to the matter. In a statement to ANI, Mandhira conveyed her faith in the Indian justice system and her expectation that it would provide the family with answers.

The legal proceedings have revealed accusations of forgery and concealment. Samaira and Kiaan, represented by their mother Karisma, claim that Priya Kapur forged Sunjay Kapur's will to gain exclusive control over his estate. Their lawyer, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, pointed out that the will was unregistered, not disclosed earlier, and read "in haste" at a gathering. The children also allege that Priya concealed details of Sunjay's assets and presented the will, dated March 21, 2025, only after his death.

Priya Sachdev Kapur's legal team has countered these claims, asserting that ₹1,900 crore has already been transferred to Samaira and Kiaan through the Rani Kapur Trust. However, the children maintain that they were "blindsided" by the "suspiciously timed" will and had previously been assured that no such document existed.

Adding another layer to the dispute, Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, has also challenged the will, alleging that she has been unfairly cut off from what she believes is her rightful share of the assets. Mandhira Kapur Smith has supported her mother, stating that Rani was kept in the dark about the trust and that the family is still awaiting answers.

The Delhi High Court has directed Priya Sachdev Kapur to submit a full list of all movable and immovable assets owned by Sunjay Kapur at the time of his death. The court has issued summons, with written statements to be filed within two weeks and rejoinders a week thereafter. The next hearing is scheduled for October 9, 2025, where the court will consider an ad-interim injunction.

The outcome of this legal battle will have significant implications for all parties involved, determining the rightful distribution of Sunjay Kapur's vast estate and potentially setting precedents for inheritance disputes in India.
