According to Lt Gen KJS Dhillon (Retd), during Operation Sindoor, Pakistani air defenses failed to intercept a single Indian missile. Dhillon shared insights regarding India's strategic victory where India precisely struck 11 Pakistani airbases on May 10.

Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Army on May 7, 2025, as a retaliatory missile and air strike campaign targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam. The operation included precision strikes on militant camps. Following these strikes, there were border skirmishes and drone strikes between the two countries.

India has consistently maintained that Pakistan uses core terrorism values and tactics, such as a death by a thousand shirts, that have no place in the modern world, and that they have been targeting civilians, which is unacceptable. India has sent a clear message nationally and internationally at various forums and summits that such acts will not be tolerated.

Key Points of Operation Sindoor:

  • Retaliation for Pahalgam Attack: Operation Sindoor was a response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians, mostly Hindu tourists. India accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, a charge Pakistan denied.
  • Targets: India stated that the missile strikes targeted the camps and infrastructure of militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted. However, Pakistan claimed that the strikes hit civilian areas, including mosques, causing civilian casualties.
  • Indian Claims: India claimed to have struck nine sites, focusing on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and disabling terrorists likely to be sent across to India. At least 100 militants were said to have been killed in the strikes.
  • Pakistani Claims: Pakistan claimed that the Indian strikes were an unprovoked attack targeting innocent people, resulting in the death of at least 31 civilians, including women and children, and injuring dozens more.
  • Ceasefire: After intense conflict, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire effective from May 10, 2025, following direct communications between their military commanders.
  • Strategic Restraint: India portrayed Operation Sindoor as a principle-driven military response underpinned by strategic restraint, with the objective of upholding national sovereignty and protecting civilian lives without escalating the conflict.
  • Pakistan's Response: Pakistan launched an operation codenamed "Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos" targeting several Indian military bases.

Lt Gen KJS Dhillon (Retd) has also revealed that the Pakistan Army chief hid in a bunker during Operation Sindoor, exposing the Pakistan Army's weak leadership. He further noted that Pakistan put out a list of 138 names of soldiers and officers who were given gallantry awards as shahid for this operation, but then suddenly removed it. Dhillon's book, "Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India's Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan," covers the lead-up to the Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks, the differences between the two incidents, and the rationale behind the Pahalgam operation.
