The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, which was scheduled to begin on September 14, has been postponed until further notice due to continuous heavy rainfall at Bhawan and along the pilgrimage route. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board made the announcement on September 13, citing safety concerns for devotees.

Officials stated that the decision to postpone the Yatra was made to ensure the safety of pilgrims, as the continuous rains have made the route unsafe. Pilgrims have been advised to stay updated through official communication channels, including the Lieutenant Governor's Office and the Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR) of Jammu and Kashmir. The Yatra will resume once the weather conditions improve and the route is declared safe for travel. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will release further updates and information as soon as circumstances become favorable.

This is not the first time the Vaishno Devi Yatra has been disrupted due to inclement weather. Earlier in September 2025, the Yatra remained suspended for eight consecutive days due to bad weather conditions in the Trikuta hills. In late August 2025, the Yatra was temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall in Jammu. Landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rains have been known to block roads in the Trikuta Hills, making the pilgrimage route unsafe. A devastating landslide near Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari on August 26, 2025, claimed over 30 lives and left 20 others injured.

In the wake of such incidents, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor has often ordered the constitution of high-level committees to investigate the causes and recommend preventive measures. The Reasi district administration and shrine board officials are closely monitoring the situation, and restoration work on damaged routes and roads is underway.

The Vaishno Devi Shrine is located in the Trikuta Mountains near Katra in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Devotees traditionally undertake a 12-kilometer trek from Katra to the holy shrine. The Yatra is a significant pilgrimage for Hindus, and its suspension affects thousands of devotees who travel to the region to pay their respects. The authorities are working to restore safe passage as soon as possible, keeping the safety and well-being of the pilgrims as their top priority.
