A 20-year-old Zomato food delivery agent, identified as Vikas, tragically lost his life after being crushed by a speeding truck in Gurugram. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday near the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) close to Vatika Chowk.

According to police reports, Vikas, a native of Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh, was on his way to deliver an order around 11:30 pm. While attempting a U-turn near Vatika Chowk, his motorcycle was struck from the side by a speeding truck. Vikas became trapped under the truck's front right tire and was crushed to death. Sudhir Sharma, a nearby witness, recounted the horrific scene, stating that Vikas's head was crushed.

The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police have impounded the truck and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified driver at the Badshahpur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A search operation is underway to apprehend the accused.

Vikas's family has been informed of the tragedy, and his body has been sent to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.

This is not an isolated incident, as the SPR has become known as a dangerous stretch of road. In July and August, there were at least two shooting incidents on the SPR. In one instance, a Delhi man was shot dead near the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Sector 77. In another, singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria was shot at on the SPR section near Badshahpur in Sector 71.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a food delivery agent has lost their life in a road accident in Gurugram. In March 2022, four Swiggy delivery agents were killed when a speeding car rammed into their bikes on the Golf Course Road. In June 2024, a 35-year-old Zomato delivery agent was killed after being hit by a tractor in Sector 40. In December 2022, a food delivery agent was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving an SUV in Kanhai village. These incidents highlight the dangers faced by food delivery workers, who often navigate busy roads and traffic at all hours to fulfill orders.
