Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Kolkata, West Bengal, for a two-day visit before heading to Bihar. The Prime Minister arrived in Kolkata on September 14, 2025, and will be in attendance for the Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC) 2025. Following the conference, Modi will travel to Purnea, Bihar, to inaugurate the Purnea Airport terminal on September 15, 2025.
The Combined Commanders' Conference 2025, hosted by the Indian Armed Forces, is taking place in Kolkata from September 15 to 17, 2025. The theme for this year's conference is "Year of Reforms - Transforming for the Future". The conference is the "apex-level brainstorming forum of the Armed Forces," bringing together top civil and military leaders to exchange views at strategic levels. The discussions will focus on crucial topics such as higher defense reforms, the creation of integrated theater commands, and the adoption of indigenously developed technology. Lessons learned from Operation Sindoor, the tri-service military strikes on terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in early May, will also be a key point of deliberation. The conference is likely to emphasize the adoption of indigenously-developed technology. The previous CCC was held in Bhopal in 2023.
The conference will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and other dignitaries.
Following the conference, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Purnea Airport terminal in Bihar on September 15. This event marks a significant step in enhancing air connectivity for the Kosi-Seemanchal subregion. The Purnea Airport will become Bihar's fourth operational commercial airport, after Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Interim Terminal Building at the new Civil Enclave, which is expected to boost passenger handling capacity in northeastern Bihar.
The airport is expected to be open to the public on September 15. Initial routes have been proposed to connect Purnea to Patna and Kolkata, enhancing air connectivity for residents in North Bihar and nearby areas of West Bengal and Nepal. IndiGo and Star Air have announced and confirmed direct flights from Purnea to Kolkata and Ahmedabad starting September 15.
In addition to the airport inauguration, PM Modi will launch development projects worth around ₹36,000 crore in Purnea. These projects include laying the foundation stone for the Bikramshila–Katareah rail line and inaugurating the Araria–Galgalia rail line. He will also flag off new train services, including the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express routes between Saharsa–Chheharta and Jogbani–Erode.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will launch the National Makhana Board in Bihar to promote production, boost exports, and enhance branding. He will also lay the foundation stone of a 3x800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti and launch Phase 1 of the Kosi–Mechi River Link Project. Additionally, Modi will inaugurate eastern India's first Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Purnea.
PM Modi's visit is part of a larger tour across five states—Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar—where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth Rs 71,850 crore.
