Following the tragic death of acclaimed singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore, his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, has made an emotional appeal to his fans to withdraw the FIRs filed against his manager, Siddhartha Sharma. She described Siddhartha as being "like our own brother" and highlighted his crucial role in Zubeen's life, especially during his illness.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore, ahead of his scheduled performance at the North East India Festival. Initial reports suggested a scuba diving accident, but Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the singer drowned while swimming without a life jacket, despite warnings from lifeguards. Sarma stated that Garg had removed the life jacket, claiming it was too large and hindered his swimming. The 52-year-old singer's death has sent shockwaves through the music industry and his massive fan base.
In a video message released on Saturday, September 20, 2025, a visibly distressed Garima appealed for peace and unity during this difficult time. She requested that everyone show the same love to Zubeen in his final journey as they did during his lifetime so that he can rest peacefully. She expressed her gratitude for the support received from the masses and thanked the police for their assistance.
Garima's plea specifically addressed the FIRs filed against Siddhartha Sharma, Zubeen's long-time manager. She emphasized Siddhartha's unwavering support and dedication to Zubeen throughout his career. Recalling a particularly challenging time during the COVID-19 pandemic, Garima shared how Siddhartha accompanied them to Mumbai when Zubeen suffered a major seizure attack and ensured the family had food and supplies when resources were limited. She stated that Zubeen always stood by Siddhartha and never tolerated anyone speaking against him.
"Zubeen must come back, and we will all get to see him one last time. Along with Zubeen, Siddhartha, who has been like a brother to him from the very beginning, will also be coming,” Garima said. She pleaded with fans to allow Siddhartha to be part of Zubeen's final journey and to set aside any negative thoughts about him. "I need all my people around me tomorrow, and I will need Siddhart's support - without him, I cannot do anything,” she added. Garima further explained that Zubeen had many unfinished tasks, and she cannot complete them alone, emphasizing Siddhartha's crucial role in helping her. "I also request that all FIRs filed against Siddhartha be withdrawn," she concluded.
The Assam CID has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding Zubeen's death. Meanwhile, Zubeen's mortal remains are expected to arrive in India on September 21, 2025, and will be taken to his residence in Guwahati. The body will then be kept at the Sarusajai Stadium for the public to pay their respects. The Assam government has announced a holiday on the day of his last rites.
Garima's appeal underscores the importance of unity and support during this period of mourning. Her plea to withdraw the FIRs against Siddhartha Sharma reflects the deep bond between Zubeen, his family, and his trusted manager, and her desire for a peaceful farewell to the beloved singer.
