Phoebe Litchfield's impressive innings of 88 runs propelled Australia to an eight-wicket victory over India in their World Cup warm-up match held in New Chandigarh. This win showcased Australia's strength as they prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

India, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, set a target of 282, scoring 281/7 in their 50 overs. Indian openers Smriti Mandhana (58) and Pratika Rawal (64) made significant contributions, along with Harleen Deol (54). Megan Schutt took two wickets for 45 runs, becoming the ninth Australian woman to play 100 ODIs. Richa Ghosh (25) and Radha Yadav (19) also added valuable runs, while Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten on 25.

In response, Australia chased down the target with 35 balls to spare, finishing at 282/2 in 44.1 overs. Captain Alyssa Healy started aggressively with 27 runs before being dismissed. Litchfield then took charge, scoring 88 off 80 balls, including 14 fours. Ellyse Perry had to retire hurt due to a calf cramp at 30. Beth Mooney remained not out at 77, and Annabel Sutherland scored 52 not out, contributing to the comfortable chase. Litchfield was named player of the match.

Litchfield's innings was crucial in overhauling India's total. She reached her half-century in 44 deliveries and continued to dominate the innings until she was caught off Sneh Rana, just 12 runs short of her century. Mooney and Sutherland then guided the team to victory.

Alyssa Healy downplayed concerns about Ellyse Perry's injury, joking it was simply due to Perry being "old". Healy praised Litchfield's outstanding performance and the contributions from the rest of the team. Litchfield expressed her excitement about the batting conditions in India, noting the flat pitches.

During India's innings, Rawal was stumped by Healy off Alana King's bowling after a good piece of fielding from Litchfield. Deol was the only other Indian batter to make a significant contribution.

Australia's strong performance in this warm-up match sends a message to their competitors ahead of the World Cup. The victory, achieved with ease against India, highlights Australia's batting depth and their ability to chase down large totals.

The two teams will play again at the same venue before moving to Delhi for the final match of the series. Australia will then participate in further warm-up games before their World Cup campaign begins on October 1.
