Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is making his directorial debut with the upcoming Netflix series, "The Ba***ds of Bollywood," a satirical take on the Hindi film industry. Ahead of the show's premiere, anecdotes from the cast and crew are surfacing, offering insights into Aryan's directorial style and his relationships with the actors.
One such story involves Lakshya Lalwani, who plays a lead role in the series. Lakshya, who had to wait years for his Bollywood debut, recalls Aryan's casual invitation to join the cast while both were in Dubai. According to Lakshya, Aryan invited him to a party, nonchalantly adding, "Aaja raat ko party karte hai achha tu show kar raha hai haan," which translates to "Come for the party, also you are doing the show".
This easygoing approach seems to be characteristic of Aryan's style. Despite his famous lineage, those who have worked with him describe him as down-to-earth and approachable. Lakshya shared an anecdote about Aryan attending the screening of "Kill" and respectfully greeting his parents, with Lakshya's father remarking that Aryan didn't seem like Shah Rukh Khan's son. Anya Singh, another cast member, noted that Aryan created a comfortable atmosphere on set, making everyone feel normal.
The cast of "The Ba***ds of Bollywood" have shared several experiences that highlight Aryan's dedication and vision as a director. Raghav Juyal recounted a "superb party" scene where he was spitting food into Lakshya's mouth. Despite the messy nature of the scene, Aryan insisted on capturing it, showcasing his commitment to his vision. Both Lakshya and Raghav shared how Aryan would enact scenes to demonstrate what he wanted, even going as far as slapping himself to show how to do a slap scene.
Bobby Deol, who also stars in the series, was immediately impressed by Aryan's fire and determination. He recalled Aryan narrating the entire seven-episode storyline over seven hours, which solidified his decision to be a part of the project.
Aryan himself has stated that he wanted to create a world that felt alive, a blend of glitz and grit, where ambition shines and egos clash. He aimed to present a raw and stylized story that the world has never experienced before.
"The Ba***ds of Bollywood" features cameos from several Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Karan Johar. Anya Singh and Lakshya revealed that even Aamir Khan and S.S. Rajamouli's cameos were unscripted. Aryan spontaneously wrote a scene for them while Anya and Lakshya were changing costumes.
The series is set to premiere on Netflix on September 18 and is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, co-created and co-written by Aryan Khan, Bilal Siddiqi, and Manav Chauhan. The show is anticipated to provide a unique perspective on the inner workings of Bollywood.
