The Bima Sugam India Federation (BSIF), the entity steering the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)'s electronic marketplace Bima Sugam, has launched its official website. The launch, which occurred on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, marks a significant stride in constructing India's pioneering digital public infrastructure (DPI) for insurance.
Bima Sugam: A Digital Public Infrastructure for Insurance
IRDAI Chairman Ajay Seth unveiled the website at the IRDAI headquarters in Hyderabad, with industry leaders, senior IRDAI officials, and the Bima Sugam leadership team in attendance. Seth stated that Bima Sugam represents a critical step in creating India's DPI for insurance. He also expressed confidence that with the collective commitment of the industry, the vision of "Insurance for All by 2047" would become a reality as part of the Prime Minister's mission of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Bima Sugam platform's rollout will follow a phased approach to ensure the highest levels of security, compliance, and scalability. The marketplace will progressively go live with real transactions as insurers and ecosystem partners complete the necessary integrations over the coming months, in line with the board-approved roadmap. According to an Economic Times report, the website is expected to be fully operational by December 2025.
