The investigation into the truck driver abduction case in Navi Mumbai has widened to include the role of Manorama Khedkar, the mother of dismissed IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, in allegedly assisting her husband, Dilip Khedkar, and his bodyguard, Praful Salunkhe, to evade authorities. Dilip Khedkar and Salunkhe are accused of abducting Prahlad Kumar, a 22-year-old truck helper, following a road rage incident on September 13, 2025.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when the concrete mixer truck driven by Kumar brushed against a Land Cruiser belonging to Dilip Khedkar. This led to an argument, after which Dilip Khedkar and Salunkhe allegedly forced Kumar into their SUV and took him to Manorama Khedkar's bungalow in Pune.
The Navi Mumbai police tracked the SUV to the Pune residence and, with the assistance of the Pune police, located Kumar. However, when the police arrived at the bungalow, Manorama Khedkar allegedly obstructed their entry. Reports indicate that she refused to open the gate, unleashed dogs to scare the police team, and ensured that the car used in the abduction was removed from the premises. She allegedly took a picture of the FIR, promised to bring the accused to the police station, but later reneged on her promise.
Following the incident, Dilip Khedkar, Praful Salunkhe, and Manorama Khedkar have absconded. Authorities have launched a manhunt, but the family remains untraced. Police officials have stated that the family members have switched off their mobile phones and have not made any online transactions since Sunday. The police are now reviewing CCTV footage around the bungalow to determine the vehicle used in their escape.
A case has been registered against Manorama Khedkar for allegedly obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties. Additionally, Navi Mumbai Police have filed a kidnapping case against Dilip Khedkar and his bodyguard.
This is not the first time the Khedkar family has been involved in controversy. Puja Khedkar was previously dismissed from the IAS after being found guilty of using fraudulent means to avail OBC and disability quota benefits. Furthermore, Manorama Khedkar was arrested last year for allegedly threatening farmers with a pistol. Dilip Khedkar is also under investigation for allegedly possessing unaccounted wealth.
The police suspect that the accused may seek anticipatory bail and remain in hiding until they secure it. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are exploring all possible avenues to locate the Khedkar family and bring them to justice. The incident has raised concerns about the Khedkar family's history of alleged criminal activity and abuse of power.
