Abhinav Kashyap, the director of the 2010 hit film Dabangg, has once again made headlines with fresh allegations against Salman Khan and his family. In a recent interview, Kashyap didn't hold back, calling Salman a "criminal" and describing his family as "not normal". He also labeled Salman as "ill-mannered" and "vindictive".
Kashyap's outburst is the latest in a series of accusations he has made against the Khan family over the years. He has alleged that the Khan family has sabotaged his career after he refused to direct Dabangg 2.
In the recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, Kashyap claimed that Salman Khan had a "chhichora" (rowdy) image before Dabangg due to his roles in films like Tere Naam and Wanted. He stated that Salman's image was that of someone who would harass women on the streets. Kashyap believes that Dabangg helped to change that image.
Kashyap also revealed that Randeep Hooda was his initial choice for the lead role in Dabangg. However, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan insisted on casting Salman Khan. Kashyap recalled Sohail Khan saying that Randeep Hooda didn't have a big enough market and that they needed a bigger hero.
Furthermore, Kashyap claimed that Salman Khan was insecure about Sonu Sood's physique during the filming of Dabangg. He said that Salman wasn't very keen on casting Sonu Sood as the antagonist because Sonu had a good body. According to Kashyap, Katrina Kaif helped convince Salman to cast Sood.
Kashyap's relationship with the Khan family seems to have soured after the success of Dabangg. While the film marked the debut for Sonakshi Sinha as an actress, Arbaaz Khan as a producer, and Kashyap as a director, it appears that the director's experience with the film's star was not a positive one. Dabangg was a commercial success, grossing ₹219 crore (approximately $47 million) worldwide. However, Kashyap opted out of directing the sequel, and Arbaaz Khan took over as the director for Dabangg 2.
Anurag Kashyap, Abhinav's brother, also weighed in on the matter in the past. After Shobhaa De called for a boycott of Dabangg due to Salman's comments on the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Anurag tweeted, "Salman khan thinks he made my brother's life.. Hope he can do the same for his brother Arbaaz with Dabangg 2".
Abhinav Kashyap's recent remarks add another chapter to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Khan family.
