Anurag Kashyap's Nishaanchi, releasing September 19, 2025, is already generating buzz as a crime drama that blends his signature raw realism with classic Bollywood elements. While comparisons to his earlier work, Gangs of Wasseypur, are inevitable, Kashyap insists that Nishaanchi is a different beast altogether, drawing from his personal experiences growing up in Kanpur and Lucknow. He describes it as his most "filmi" film yet, a conscious effort to capture the essence of the Bollywood he loved as a kid, with influences from Salim-Javed, Mother India, and Ram Aur Shyam.

The film tells the story of twin brothers, Babloo and Dabloo, navigating the treacherous world of crime and conscience. Newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray steps into the challenging roles of the twins, with Monika Panwar as their mother, Vedika Pinto as Babloo's love interest, and Kumud Mishra as the menacing antagonist, Ambika Prasad. Kashyap has praised Aaishvary's dedication and "hunger," emphasizing that the casting was based on talent and commitment, not lineage. He revealed that Aaishvary wasn't initially told about the double role to avoid overwhelming him.

Nishaanchi promises a rollercoaster of emotions, action, romance, and family drama. Reviews suggest the film has earthy humor and raw action. The film incorporates music and dialogues that enhance the narrative.

Kashyap has always been known for spotting fresh talent and his films often have a lasting impact, more than just box office success. Nishaanchi appears to be a blend of Kashyap's signature style with mainstream Bollywood. Some critics note the film's meta references to older movies.

While some critics find the script weak, they praise the cast's performances, particularly Aaishvary Thackeray and Monika Panwar. The movie is full-on desi, but is very long. Overall, Nishaanchi is considered a classic Bollywood entertainer.
