Delhi is gearing up to launch the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), a unified smart card that will allow commuters to seamlessly access various public transportation modes with a single tap. This initiative aims to streamline travel across buses, metro lines, and other public transport services in Delhi and participating areas, reducing the need for multiple tickets or passes.

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is collaborating with nationalized banks to issue color-coded smart cards tailored to different commuter categories. These cards will include pink cards for women and transgender individuals, enabling free bus travel and paid travel on metro and regional rail. Blue cards will be available for all passengers, while orange cards will serve as monthly passes for general and concessional commuters.

The NCMC operates on a prepaid, contactless model. Passengers can tap their cards on electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) inside buses or at metro gates, and the fare will be automatically deducted. The ETM machine will validate the card. Transaction data will be securely transmitted to back-end servers and banks, ensuring transparent settlement. The system is designed to support Delhi's vision of sustainable, gender-neutral, and equitable public mobility.

To be eligible for the NCMC, applicants must be bona fide residents of Delhi, aged 12 years and above, and possess valid proof of address. Cards can be obtained from designated bank branches or service centers, with instant issuance provisions. Recharge options will be available online through internet banking and at points of sale. Regular inspections and safeguards will be implemented to prevent card misuse and fare collection malpractices.
