An encounter between security forces and terrorists commenced in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night. According to Army officials, the gunfight began at approximately 8:00 PM.
Alert troops of the White Knight Corps initiated an intelligence-based operation in the general area of Kishtwar, which led to contact with the terrorists. Following the initial contact, an exchange of fire ensued. As of the latest reports, the operation is still underway.
The Army has not yet released details regarding casualties or the number of terrorists involved. Kishtwar is a mountainous region in the Chenab Valley. In July 2025, security forces engaged a group of terrorists in the Kanzal Mandu area of the Kuchal-Chatroo belt, although the group managed to escape. Security agencies have expanded surveillance to the Bhaderwah area of the Doda district to track potential movement of terrorists in the hilly districts of the Jammu region.
Earlier this year, in August, an anti-terror operation in Kishtwar, linked to the Akhal offensive in the Kulgam forests, resulted in heavy firing, blasts, and the destruction of a cave hideout. During that operation, one terrorist was killed, and several soldiers were injured.
In a separate incident, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Chhatroo forest area of Kishtwar district. A large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site. Also, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt by heavily armed terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector.
