Aamir Khan has recently shared insights into his evolving relationship with Salman Khan, particularly highlighting how their bond deepened during Aamir's divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta.

Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's friendship wasn't always strong. In fact, Aamir admitted that he "didn't like" Salman during the filming of Andaz Apna Apna in 1994, finding him "rude and inconsiderate" due to his habit of arriving late on set. This led Aamir to initially want to avoid working with Salman again.

However, their relationship took an unexpected turn during a difficult period in Aamir's life. Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta were married for 16 years before divorcing in 2002. Aamir confessed to struggling emotionally after the split, even confessing to having suicidal thoughts and battling alcohol dependence. He described this time as his "lowest phase," during which he isolated himself. Ironically, this period coincided with the release of Lagaan, which brought him international acclaim.

It was during this vulnerable time that Salman Khan reached out to Aamir. Aamir recalls that Salman visited him for dinner, and they had a heartfelt conversation. Aamir shared that he "spoke his heart out" to Salman, which led to them bonding as friends. This marked the beginning of a genuine friendship that has continued to grow over the years.

Aamir himself admitted to being judgmental towards Salman early in their acquaintance. However, experiencing Salman's support during his divorce changed his perception.

Aamir has been open about the circumstances surrounding his divorce from Reena Dutta. He married Reena when he was 21 and she was 19, after only knowing each other for four months. He described the decision as "jawani ka josh" (youthful exuberance), admitting that they didn't fully comprehend the gravity of the decision at such a young age. He also acknowledged that he was too focused on his work, which became a "red flag" in the marriage. Despite the divorce, Aamir has maintained a cordial relationship with Reena, and they continue to co-parent their children, Junaid and Ira. He emphasized that Reena wasn't a "mistake" and that he cherishes the 16 years they spent together.

The bond between Aamir and Salman has strengthened over time. Aamir attended the premiere of Salman's film Dabangg, and Salman has praised Aamir's Dangal. They recently appeared together on the premiere episode of Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, sharing stories about their friendship. The episode promises "a mix of fun, nostalgia, and heartwarming moments" as they reflect on their journey in the film industry.
