The upcoming Bollywood film Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is generating significant buzz on social media platform X. The movie is slated to release on October 21, 2025, coinciding with Diwali.
Thama is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, known for his work on Munjya, and is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik. It is the fifth installment in Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe, following Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. However, Thama will have a different tone from its predecessors. Sarpotdar has described it as a romantic comedy with supernatural elements, rather than a horror-comedy. It is also being touted as the first "bloody love story" within the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
The film features Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, who is a Rajma Chawal-loving vampire, and Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka, a fellow vampire and Alok's love interest. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the main antagonist, Yakshasan, a vampire belonging to the Betaal community. The cast also includes Paresh Rawal as Ram Bajaj Goyal and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma as Alok's parents. Varun Dhawan will make a cameo appearance, reprising his role from Bhediya. Additionally, Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi will make special appearances in song sequences.
The trailer for Thama was released on September 26, 2025, and has further amplified the film's trending status. The trailer is full of mystery, romance, and supernatural drama, and even features meme references and the social media track 'Dame Un Grr'. The trailer reveals that Yakshasan, trapped in a cave for years, is discovered by Ayushmann's character, Alok. Soon after, Alok starts transforming, growing fangs and developing a steel-like body.
The movie's plot revolves around Alok's transformation into a vampire and his navigation of this new reality, including his relationship with Tadaka and his battle against Yakshasan. A subplot involves Alok dealing with his clueless parents.
Reportedly, Ayushmann Khurrana plays a historian in Thama, and the film explores unrequited love. The narrative includes flashbacks to the ancient city of Vijaynagar, where the love story begins, shifting from present-day Delhi.
Principal photography for Thama began in December 2024 and concluded around May 2025. Filming took place primarily in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ooty.
Thama is written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara. The music is composed by Sachin–Jigar.
With its unique blend of comedy, horror, and romance, Thama is expected to be a major release during the Diwali festival.
