The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has firmly stated that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is an integral part of India, reacting to the widespread protests and unrest in the region as a "natural consequence" of Pakistan's oppressive policies and the systemic plundering of its resources.

Recent reports indicate a significant escalation of protests in PoK, triggered by long-standing grievances over unmet demands, rising costs of living, and the denial of fundamental rights. Clashes between demonstrators and Pakistani security forces have resulted in multiple casualties, with reports of at least 12 civilians and 3 police officers killed, and over 100 injured. The protests, led by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), have brought life to a standstill in several areas, with markets, shops, and local businesses shut down. Mobile, internet, and landline services have also been disrupted.

The MEA has strongly criticized Pakistan's actions in PoK, holding them accountable for "horrific human rights violations" and the exploitation of the region's resources. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the unrest is a direct result of Pakistan's "oppressive approach" and the "systemic plundering of resources" from the territories under its control. He reiterated India's long-standing position that the Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh "have been, are, and shall always remain an integral part of India".

The protests in PoK have expanded beyond the initial demands for subsidized food and electricity, evolving into a broader movement against military excesses and the denial of political rights. Protesters are calling for the abolition of assembly seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan and an end to the perks and privileges enjoyed by politicians. Some reports suggest that the protests have spread to other parts of Pakistan, including Karachi and Islamabad, where demonstrators are expressing solidarity with the people of PoK.

India has consistently maintained that the only issue to be discussed with Pakistan regarding Jammu and Kashmir is the return of PoK to India. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has affirmed that India will never accept that PoK is not a part of India, emphasizing that this position reflects the viewpoint of the entire nation. India has also made it clear that any act of terrorism from Pakistan will be met with a firm response.

The MEA has rejected any third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, asserting that it is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan. The ministry has also stated that cross-border terrorism from Pakistan remains the main problem in Jammu and Kashmir.

The situation in PoK remains tense, with ongoing protests and clashes between demonstrators and security forces. The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and has called on Pakistan to address the grievances of the people of PoK and cease its oppressive policies.
