Rodrigo Bentancur extends Tottenham stay: Securing his future with a new long-term contract with the Spurs.

Rodrigo Bentancur has solidified his commitment to Tottenham Hotspur by signing a new long-term contract with the club. The Uruguay international, who joined Spurs in January 2022 from Juventus, has become a key figure in the team, making 122 appearances and scoring nine goals. His previous contract was set to expire in the next 12 months, but he has now committed his future to Tottenham under the leadership of new head coach Thomas Frank.

Bentancur expressed his delight at extending his stay with the club. "I feel really good and I'm very happy to continue my story with this fantastic club," he said. "My family are happy; I have fantastic friends and team-mates who work hard every day. I love this Club and feel really good here". He also highlighted the team's recent success, stating, "Winning the Europa League was a fantastic moment and we want to build on this now, to win more trophies". Bentancur also acknowledged the arrival of new head coach Thomas Frank and the appointment of Cristian Romero as the new captain, expressing his eagerness to enjoy many more years at the club.

Thomas Frank also shared his enthusiasm about Bentancur's contract extension. "I'm extremely happy that Rodrigo has committed his future to the Club," Frank said. "It shows his belief in what we are building here and that we are starting a journey which we hope will be really special". He further praised Bentancur's abilities, stating, "Rodri is a big part of that. He's a fantastic midfielder who can dictate games and be the glue that holds the team together. He also has the ability to arrive in the penalty area, create goals and score them, too".

Since arriving from Juventus alongside Dejan Kulusevski, Bentancur has made a significant impact on Tottenham. In the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, he started 16 of the final 18 matches, helping the team secure a return to the UEFA Champions League. Although his first full season in N17 was cut short due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2023, he has remained a vital part of the squad.

Bentancur's journey to Tottenham Hotspur began in the youth system of Argentine side Boca Juniors. He was promoted to the senior squad in 2015, winning two Primera División titles and a Copa Argentina. In 2017, he moved to Juventus, where he won three consecutive Serie A titles and other trophies. At the international level, Bentancur was a member of the Uruguay U-20 squad that won the 2017 South American U-20 Championship. He has also represented Uruguay at the FIFA World Cup.

With his new long-term contract, Rodrigo Bentancur is set to continue his important role at Tottenham Hotspur, contributing his skills and experience to the team's pursuit of further success.
