Air India Transfers 60 Domestic Flights to Delhi T1 October 26th After Terminal Upgrade

Starting October 26, 2025, Air India is set to move 60 of its domestic flights to the upgraded Terminal 2 (T2) of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Furthermore, Air India Express will shift all of its domestic operations to the newly renovated Terminal 1 (T1). International flights for both airlines will continue to operate from Terminal 3 (T3).

This relocation is due to expansion works at Terminal 3, which will reduce its domestic capacity to increase international passenger capacity. Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) is undertaking these works. The expansion aims to boost the airport's overseas passenger capacity by 50%, from 2 crore to 3 crore annually, with completion expected by December 2025. After the expansion, approximately three-fourths of the airport will be dedicated to international operations, and one-fourth to domestic operations.

To help passengers identify flights operating from T2, Air India's domestic flights arriving at or departing from T2 will be renumbered with four digits, starting with '1' (e.g., AI1737, AI1787). Air India and Air India Express will proactively notify passengers affected by these changes via their registered contact details. Passengers making new Air India bookings on AI1XXX-series flights will be clearly notified that their flight operates from T2. Guests booking Air India Express domestic flights for travel to or from Delhi will also receive notifications.

Passengers with connecting flights who have boarding passes for their onward journeys will be provided with inter-terminal transfers between T1, T2, and T3. This service applies to connections between Air India, Air India Express, and applicable codeshare flights. Through-checked baggage will be transferred airside, removing the need to collect and recheck bags during terminal changes. DIAL will operate a free shuttle service between terminals every 10 minutes to facilitate smooth connectivity. Passengers with reduced mobility or special assistance needs can also use a comfortable buggy ride between T2 and T3.
