ASI suicide investigation: FIR implicates deceased's IAS wife and her brother in the tragic case.

In a significant development in the alleged suicide case of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, Rohtak police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming Kumar's wife, Amneet P. Kumar, a 2001-batch IAS officer, her brother Amit Rattan, an AAP MLA from Punjab, and Head Constable Sushil Kumar, Puran Kumar's PSO, who is currently in jail in connection with a corruption case.

The FIR was registered on Wednesday following the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar Lathar, who was found dead on Tuesday. ASI Sandeep Kumar had left behind a suicide note and a video alleging corruption by the deceased IPS officer and his family. The case has taken several dramatic turns, with allegations of caste discrimination, corruption, and extortion surfacing within the Haryana Police.

According to officials, the FIR has been registered under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Sandeep's wife, Santosh.

The accusations made by ASI Sandeep Lathar in his suicide note and video have added a new layer of complexity to the case. Sandeep alleged that Puran Kumar died by suicide fearing that an investigation would expose his family's corrupt activities. He also claimed that after Puran Kumar was posted in the Rohtak range, he replaced honest police officers with corrupt ones, who were involved in extortion and sexual harassment.

The sequence of events began on October 7, when IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself at his residence in Chandigarh. In a nine-page "final note," Kumar accused eight senior IPS officers, including DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor and SP Narinder Bijarniya, of caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, public humiliation, and abuse of authority. Following his death, the Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against those named in his suicide note.

Puran Kumar's family initially refused to allow an autopsy, demanding action against DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and SP Narendra Bijarniya, who were among those accused in the suicide note. The Haryana government subsequently sent DGP Shatrujeet Kapur on leave and transferred SP Narendra Bijarniya. Eventually, Puran Kumar's cremation took place on Wednesday after an eight-day impasse, with his wife expressing hope for an impartial probe.

Adding to the turmoil, ASI Sandeep Kumar, who was part of the team investigating the corruption allegations against Puran Kumar and was involved in the arrest of Puran Kumar's former PSO, was found dead on October 14. In his suicide note and video, Sandeep alleged that Puran Kumar was a "corrupt officer" and that he had died by suicide out of fear of arrest. He praised DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Bijarniya as honest officers.

The Haryana government is now facing pressure from multiple fronts, with allegations and counter-allegations creating a complex web of accusations. The investigation into both deaths is ongoing, with special investigation teams (SITs) formed to probe the matter.
