Kap's Café, owned by Indian comedian and TV host Kapil Sharma, in Surrey, British Columbia, has been targeted by gunfire for the third time in four months. The latest incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, while staff were inside the café. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to reports of shots fired at the business, located on 120 Street and 85 Avenue, and found the building damaged by numerous bullets. A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the shooting, with muzzle flashes visible as a vehicle speeds past the café, its occupant firing repeatedly at the storefront. The authenticity of the video has not been confirmed.
This marks the third time Kap's Café has been targeted in a similar manner. The previous shootings occurred within weeks of each other over the summer, on July 10 and August 7. The July 10 shooting happened just days after the café's opening. All three incidents involved drive-by style attacks, resulting in damage to the windows and building. The café had reopened on October 2, 2025, after undergoing repairs and enhanced security measures.
Authorities suspect the shootings are related to ongoing extortion-related violence in the city. While people claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have taken responsibility for the latest attack, police are urging caution, noting that different gangs have previously claimed responsibility for the same shooting. Surrey Police are investigating potential ties to earlier incidents.
In a statement, B.C. Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger expressed deep concern over the repeated shootings. She condemned the violence and emphasized the province's commitment to combating organized crime. She also pointed to the recently announced Extortion Task Force, a joint operation involving police from several jurisdictions, including Surrey.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke also condemned the shooting, stating, "Our city will not be intimidated by reckless acts of violence. We stand with local businesses and demand swift justice".
Following the latest incident, the Kap's Café team released a statement on Instagram, saying, "We're processing this shock, but we're not giving up. Violence won't silence our spirit or our community".
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting, or with dash-cam or CCTV video from the area, to contact the department's non-emergency line or Crime Stoppers.
