Delhi's Kartavya Path was transformed into a radiant spectacle on Saturday, October 18, 2025, as the city celebrated its first-ever Deepotsav. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the grand event, which featured the lighting of 1.51 lakh diyas (earthen lamps), turning the iconic avenue into a mesmerizing sea of light. The celebration also included cultural performances, storytelling sessions of Ram Katha, and a captivating drone show.
The Deepotsav at Kartavya Path marked a milestone for Delhi, aligning the capital with the spiritual splendor of Ayodhya. The event began at 6:00 pm and showcased India's enduring cultural unity. The evening stood as a radiant tribute to faith, devotion, and the timeless spirit of Diwali.
Diwali, also known as Deepawali, remains one of India's most revered and celebrated festivals, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Rooted in the legend of Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, the festival unites people across faiths and generations. Homes are cleaned and adorned with lights and rangolis, while families worship Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and share sweets, gifts, and festive joy, reaffirming bonds of love and togetherness.
The Ramayana-themed laser and drone show added a modern technological touch to the spiritual storytelling, captivating the audience. High-ranking ministers and other government officials were present at the event, highlighting the significance of the celebration. The Deepotsav is seen as a new chapter in Delhi's public Diwali festivities.
While Delhi celebrated its grand Deepotsav debut, Ayodhya, the spiritual epicenter of Diwali festivities, prepared to mesmerize the nation yet again. This year, the holy city is set to light 2.8 million diyas across 56 ghats along the Sarayu River, aiming to surpass previous records.
The Delhi government issued special orders to ensure the capital was ready for the celebrations. According to officials, the celebrations are in line with the festivities at Ayodhya, where Deepotsav has evolved into a globally recognized spectacle over the past eight years. The BJP returned to power in Delhi after more than 26 years. An official stated, "The true spirit of the celebration lies in illuminating every corner. Kartavya Path will shine in all its glory, lit brightly by the glow of diyas".
The Deepotsav highlighted unity and cultural pride, drawing participation from government officials, citizens, and cultural groups. Media coverage praised the festival as a symbol of spiritual awakening and a landmark cultural event in Delhi's calendar.
