Global currency exchange and payment platform Wise is signaling a potential foray into the cryptocurrency market, specifically stablecoins, with its recent job posting for a digital-asset product lead. The London-based fintech firm is seeking an experienced product manager to join its Accounts team and explore integrating digital assets into Wise accounts.
The job posting, highlighted on LinkedIn by Wise's product director Matthew Salisbury, specifies a focus on stablecoins and seeks candidates with a background in building wallets or payment solutions based on these digital currencies. This move suggests Wise is considering leveraging stablecoins to enhance its existing international money transfer services.
Wise, formerly known as TransferWise, has built a strong reputation for providing low-fee international money transfers across more than 160 countries and 40 currencies. In 2024, the company reported impressive financial results, with £979.9 million ($1.23 billion) in revenue and £345.6 million ($443 million) in profit. The potential addition of stablecoins could further streamline these services.
The company is looking for someone to help customers hold and use digital assets within their Wise account. The candidate will work with banking, expansion, and compliance teams to define the roadmap for global rollout, make informed decisions and inspire high standards.
Stablecoins have gained traction as a means to facilitate faster and more efficient international money transfers by enabling digital dollars to move without traditional banking intermediaries. Visa, for instance, launched a pilot program last month utilizing the stablecoins USDC and EURC to facilitate cross-border payments for financial institutions. Given Wise's focus on retail users, who are already exploring stablecoins for similar purposes, this move could be a natural progression for the company.
The successful candidate for the digital-asset product lead role will possess at least five years of product management experience and a proven track record of launching business-to-consumer products in the digital asset or blockchain space. The job entails building solutions so that Wise customers can move money instantly, conveniently, transparently and for free.
The chosen applicant will be someone with 5+ years of experience building products as a Product Manager or a Founder, who has launched a B2C product in the Digital Assets/Blockchain space. They should also be customer-obsessed and willing to work on the execution.
While Wise's specific plans for stablecoin integration remain unclear, this recruitment move indicates a growing interest in exploring the potential of digital assets to enhance its existing services and expand its reach in the global payments landscape.
