Liverpool's Champions League Hopes Dented: Key Midfielder Unavailable for Crucial Frankfurt Clash.

Liverpool's preparations for their crucial Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt have been hit by a significant blow, with star midfielder Ryan Gravenberch ruled out due to an ankle injury. The news comes as a setback for the Reds, who are already struggling with inconsistent form and are desperate to secure a positive result in Germany.

Gravenberch sustained the injury during Liverpool's recent 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday. He was forced off in the second half after twisting his ankle, and subsequent assessments have revealed that he will not be fit enough to travel with the squad to Frankfurt.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed the news, stating that Gravenberch's absence is a significant blow. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Slot said, "I had to take him off during the weekend because he limped a little bit, as we could all see. So, unfortunately, he's not ready to play tomorrow". He also acknowledged the unique qualities Gravenberch brings to the team, particularly his ability to protect the back four.

The 23-year-old Dutch international has quickly established himself as a key player for Liverpool since joining the club, making nine appearances and contributing two goals and two assists across all competitions. His energetic performances and tactical awareness have made him a valuable asset in midfield, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt against a tough Frankfurt side.

Slot is hopeful that Gravenberch's injury is not too serious and that he will be available for selection for Liverpool's upcoming Premier League match against Brentford at the weekend. "Ryan is not available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend," Slot said. "But it's an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt".

In Gravenberch's absence, other midfielders such as Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are likely to step up. The return of Wataru Endo from injury provides another option for Slot in midfield.

Liverpool's Champions League campaign has had a rocky start, and they currently sit mid-table in their group. A win against Frankfurt would be a significant boost to their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

Adding to Liverpool's disrupted preparation, their flight to Frankfurt was delayed due to "technical issues with the aircraft," forcing the cancellation of Slot's pre-match press conference.

Liverpool's travelling squad includes players such as Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Szoboszlai, Salah and Gakpo. Alisson Becker remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
