Actor Vijay, head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has pledged to support the families of victims affected by recent tragedies, promising to bear their medical and educational costs. This announcement comes amidst political controversy, sparked by a satirical post from the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) that has been interpreted as a heartless jibe.

Vijay's commitment includes covering the medical expenses for those injured and ensuring the educational needs of the children who have lost parents are met. He emphasized his intention to stand by the families as a member of their own family, offering both financial and moral support during this difficult time.

The actor-politician's promise follows the tragic stampede at his rally in Karur last month, where 41 people lost their lives and nearly 100 were injured. Vijay has already announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of each of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for those injured in the stampede. He also spoke to the families of the victims via video call, consoling them and assuring them that he would visit Karur soon. During the video call that lasted for about 15-20 minutes, Vijay requested that no photos or videos be taken and also spoke about the compensation. He has collected all the bank account details of the victim's families.

However, Vijay's actions have not been without scrutiny. The Madras High Court has criticized TVK and Vijay for their initial response to the Karur stampede. The court stated that there was no communication from Vijay's TVK expressing any regret over the incident or showing any sense of responsibility, which reflected disregard for human life.

Adding to the controversy, the DMK recently posted a satirical image that has been widely condemned as insensitive. Critics argue that the post trivializes the suffering of the bereaved families and demonstrates a lack of empathy from the ruling party. The DMK is facing backlash for the post with many claiming that they lack empathy for the bereaved families.

The incident has triggered a flurry of political activity, with parties like the BJP and AIADMK taking a soft stance towards Vijay, and instead blaming the DMK government for the tragedy. Despite the High Court lashing out at Vijay, political parties are not acting against Vijay. There is a perception that the BJP is soft towards Vijay and is not attacking Vijay as much as they attack Stalin. Chief Minister MK Stalin has assured that investigations will bring out the entire truth on what actually led to the stampede and fix accountability at all levels.
