Scindia's vision: Transforming India Post through parcel business boost and innovative revenue diversification strategies.

India Post is undergoing a significant transformation, spearheaded by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, to evolve into a large-scale, future-ready logistics organization. The focus is on strengthening its mail and parcel business while exploring new revenue streams to enhance its competitive edge in the logistics and financial services sectors.

Scindia has set an ambitious goal for India Post, aiming for parcels and mail to contribute a minimum of 75% of the total revenue within the next three years. To support this objective, six new delivery services are slated for launch early next year. Furthermore, infrastructure upgrades along key transport routes are planned by March 2026, with a particular emphasis on improving connectivity in the northeastern states.

The transformation strategy rests on four pillars: organizational reorientation, technology, partnerships, and customer satisfaction. To benchmark global best practices, a delegation from India Post visited La Poste (France), Royal Mail (UK), USPS (USA), Japan Post, and DHL.

A key element of this transformation is the nationwide rollout of Advanced Postal Technology (APT), a ₹5,800 crore initiative under the IT 2.0 program. This indigenous platform, developed by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT), aims to modernize operations across 1.64 lakh post offices. APT operates on a microservices architecture hosted on the MeghRaj 2.0 cloud and is supported by BSNL's nationwide network, enabling seamless digital workflows from booking to delivery across urban and rural India. The APT system is designed to enable real-time decision-making, boost e-commerce reach, cut operational costs through automation, and deliver citizen-first, mobile-ready services anywhere, anytime.

To further enhance customer experience, a CRM (customer relationship management) solution is being integrated into the system. India Post is also set to launch eight new products spanning mail, international, and parcel categories in January 2026, including 24 Speed Post and 48 Speed Post, offering next-day and 48-hour delivery across metros and state capitals, respectively.

Recognizing the competition from private logistics players, the government is exploring all potential services to increase India Post's revenue, leveraging its potential to reach people in rural and remote areas. The goal is to increase the turnover of India Post by 50-60% in the next 3-4 years.

Targeted interventions are planned for twelve mid-performing circles -- Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh – for Q3 of FY26. These circles will develop success models inspired by Delhi and Telangana.

These changes are underway across the first mile, middle mile, and last mile of delivery—including sorting automation, hub reorganization, and fulfillment partnerships. India Post will handle fulfillment for Amazon and Shiprocket, with more logistics firms expected to join.
