Guwahati, October 31, 2025 – Fans across Assam and beyond are experiencing a wave of emotions as "Roi Roi Binale," the final film of the celebrated singer and actor Zubeen Garg, has hit theaters. The film's release has become a poignant tribute to the artist, who tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore in September 2025.
"Roi Roi Binale" has opened to packed houses across Assam, with many theaters scheduling shows as early as 4:25 AM to accommodate the overwhelming demand. According to Sourav Dutta, general manager (Northeast) of UFO Moviez, the response is unprecedented in Assamese film history. Tickets for the film have been sold out for the next week, and industry sources estimate that it could earn between ₹30–50 crore if it runs for two months.
The film is not only being screened across the Northeast, with 91 screens including 85 in Assam, but it has also made its way to cities such as Lucknow, Pune, Dehradun, and others, marking the first time an Assamese film has been shown in these locations. In Assam, many cinemas have cancelled all other screenings for a week to give "Roi Roi Binale" maximum exposure.
"Roi Roi Binale" is a musical drama in which Zubeen Garg plays Raul, a blind musician. The film features 11 songs, all composed by Zubeen himself, and revolves around the life and struggles of a musician. The film was directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and produced by Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Saikia Garg, and Shyamantak Gautam. According to Bhuyan, most of the film was completed before Garg's death.
Garima Saikia Garg shared a heartfelt message on Instagram before the film's release, expressing the emotional weight of the project and questioning the circumstances surrounding her husband's death. The Assam cabinet has decided to hand over the state's share of GST from "Roi Roi Binale" to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, which was set up by Zubeen for the welfare of the downtrodden.
Fans have taken to social media to express their emotions, with many sharing tearful reactions after watching the film. Some have described the experience as a "cathartic" farewell to the icon who shaped Assamese identity and revived Assam's film industry. One X user wrote, "Aami matro roi roi binaisu (we could only keep crying). We cannot believe that Zubeen Da is no longer with us". Another user described the film as "an emotion and a revolution for Assamese cinema".
Director Rajesh Bhuyan expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response, stating that "Roi Roi Binale" no longer belongs to them but to the people. He also mentioned that there are plans for a second movie.
"Roi Roi Binale" is more than just a film; it is a cultural phenomenon and a tribute to Zubeen Garg's legacy. It is a moment of unity for fans across generations to celebrate a man whose melodies will forever echo through Assam and the Northeast.
