Patna police have arrested Anant Singh, the Janata Dal United (JDU) candidate from Mokama, in connection with the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party. The arrest comes just days before the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for November 6.

The arrest was made early Sunday morning following an investigation into the death of Yadav, which occurred during election campaigning in Mokama on Thursday. Yadav reportedly clashed with Singh's supporters prior to his death. According to reports, Yadav died due to a ruptured lung and multiple rib fractures. An autopsy ruled out gunshot wounds as the cause of death.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the arrest, stating that Singh was apprehended at his residence in Barh, approximately 200 km from Patna. Two others, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, were also arrested in connection with the case. SSP Sharma assured voters in Patna that elections would be held peacefully and that they could exercise their right to vote without fear. He added that the police are continuing their investigation and more arrests are likely.

An FIR was lodged by Yadav's grandson, naming Anant Singh and four others. Police registered two additional FIRs related to the incident. Anant Singh has alleged that the attack was a conspiracy orchestrated by Suraj Bhan Singh, the husband of RJD candidate Veena Devi, who is also contesting from Mokama.

Piyush Priyadarshi, Jan Suraaj Party's candidate from Mokama and nephew of the deceased, welcomed the arrest, stating it was a relief for his family. He noted that Singh was campaigning with a convoy of 50 vehicles even after the FIR was registered.

Anant Singh, a controversial ex-MLA, is seeking to reclaim the Mokama seat on a JDU ticket. He is considered a strongman in the area and is up against Piyush Priyadarshi and RJD candidate Veena Devi.
