Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh: A devastating head-on collision between a car and a truck in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has resulted in the deaths of six people and serious injuries to two others. The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening on a bridge near Kutlupur village, under the Deva police station limits.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, according to eyewitness reports. Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and transported the injured to a community health center, before transferring them to the district hospital. Four people died instantly, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya visited the accident site. According to Tripathi, preliminary investigations suggest that the car entered the truck's lane, leading to the collision. Vijayvargiya confirmed that there were eight people in the car: five men and one woman died, and two others were injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was traveling at high speed and appeared to lose control upon seeing the car. The police have impounded the truck involved.
The deceased have been identified as driver Shrikant Shukla, Pradeep Soni, his wife Madhuri Soni, and their son Nitin, all residents of Fatehpur town. One of the deceased remains unidentified. The injured have been identified as Naimish, the younger son of Pradeep Soni, and another unidentified person. It has been reported that all of the car's occupants were returning home after taking a holy dip in the Ganges at Bithoor, Kanpur.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and has directed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care. Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. The car, which appeared new and lacked a number plate, was rented for an outstation trip.
