India Advocates for Lasting Gaza Peace: Jaishankar Discusses Durable Solutions with Israeli Counterpart.

New Delhi: India has reaffirmed its support for a durable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressing backing for the Gaza peace plan during a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in New Delhi.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, saw both ministers discuss the ongoing situation in the region and explore ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Israel. Jaishankar welcomed the return of living hostages taken by Hamas and the remains of those who lost their lives. He reiterated India's commitment to a "global approach of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms".

"We have naturally been following developments in your region with very close attention," Jaishankar stated, emphasizing India's hope that the current peace plan "paves the way for a durable and lasting solution".

Sa'ar thanked India for its "strong solidarity" with Israel, recalling that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first world leaders to call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre. Sa'ar stated that the "eradication of the Hamas terror state is at the heart of President Trump's plan," emphasizing that "Hamas must be disarmed. Gaza must be demilitarized". He also said that the "radical terror states" in Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen must be uprooted to ensure regional security.

"India is a global superpower. And Israel is a regional powerhouse. Our nations already share a warm friendship. Our goal is to build a long-term strategic partnership between Israel and India," Sa'ar added, highlighting the mutual threat of radical terror faced by both nations.

Jaishankar also highlighted India's consistent support for a two-state solution, with significant development cooperation with Palestine, demonstrating India’s commitment to enhancing capacity building, human resource development, and strengthening Palestinian institutions.

This meeting comes against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip, which includes the full disarmament of Hamas. India has welcomed the announcement of the deal with Prime Minister Modi calling it a step toward lasting peace in the region.

In addition to discussions on regional security, both ministers acknowledged the significant progress made in bilateral relations across various sectors, including defense, security, trade, commerce, health, and culture. They also identified new areas of potential collaboration, such as space, fintech, and technology.

Sa’ar’s visit to India underscores the strengthening relationship between the two countries, built on shared values and common challenges, particularly the threat of terrorism. It also highlights India's proactive role in seeking a peaceful and lasting resolution to the complex situation in the Gaza Strip, with emphasis on a two-state solution.
