Rahul Gandhi's Bihar Polls Claim: 10% Population Controls Army, Sparks Controversy.

Patna, Bihar – A fresh controversy has erupted in Bihar's political landscape as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Aurangabad ahead of the Assembly elections, claimed that "10% of the country's population controls the Army". The statement, made on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, has triggered a heated debate, drawing sharp reactions from political opponents.

Addressing a crowd in the Kutumba Assembly constituency, Gandhi alleged that the upper castes have disproportionate access to opportunities in various sectors, including corporate, bureaucracy, judiciary, and even the armed forces. He said that 90% of the population, comprising Dalits, Mahadalits, backward classes, tribals, and minorities, are not adequately represented in these key institutions. Gandhi further asserted that these marginalized communities are "nowhere to be found" in positions of power.

"All the wealth goes to them, all the jobs go to them. Look at the judiciary - they have control there, and even in the army," Gandhi stated. He also criticized the Bihar government, stating unemployment has forced the state's youth into becoming laborers across the country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned Gandhi's remarks, accusing him of attempting to divide the Army along caste lines. BJP spokesperson Suresh Nakhua said, "Rahul Gandhi is now searching for a caste in the Armed Forces and says 10% of people control it. In his hate for PM Modi, he has already crossed the line into hating India".

Gandhi's statement has been interpreted as a veiled reference to the upper castes, sparking discussions about representation and social justice. Critics argue that such remarks are aimed at fueling caste divisions for electoral gains. Some have also pointed out the lack of data to support Gandhi's claims about the composition of the Indian Army or other institutions. They highlight the presence of individuals from marginalized communities in high positions, such as the current Chief Justice of India, who comes from a Scheduled Caste background.

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has stirred controversy during the Bihar election campaign. He has previously accused the ruling party of electoral fraud and has criticized the Election Commission.

As the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 approaches on November 6, political parties are intensifying their campaigns and allegations. Gandhi's latest statement is likely to further polarize the political atmosphere in the state.
