Dharmendra, the legendary Bollywood actor and fondly known as the "He-Man" of Indian cinema, has passed away in Mumbai at the age of 89. His death on Monday, November 11, 2025, marks the end of an era for Hindi film history, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy that spanned more than six decades.
Born Dharam Singh Deol in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra made his debut in the film industry with "Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere" in 1960. He went on to star in over 250 films across various genres, showcasing his versatility in intense dramas, light-hearted comedies, and timeless romances.
Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to health complications.
Dharmendra's career was marked by several iconic roles and films that have become classics of Indian cinema. His unforgettable on-screen and off-screen pairing with Hema Malini became legendary. Some of his most celebrated works include "Sholay" (1975), "Chupke Chupke" (1975), "Yaadon Ki Baaraat" (1973), "Satyakam" (1969), and "Seeta Aur Geeta" (1972). He also delivered memorable performances in films like "Jugnu", "The Burning Train", and "Apne," the latter featuring his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol.
Beyond his impactful performances, Dharmendra was admired for his humility and warmth. He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema.
Dharmendra is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and daughters Esha and Ahana Deol.
