Pensioners in India can now conveniently submit their Life Certificates using smartphone-based face authentication technology until November 30, 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare, aims to simplify the annual life certificate submission process for pensioners, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of their pension benefits.
The annual Life Certificate, also known as Jeevan Pramaan, serves as a crucial document for pensioners to verify their existence to pension disbursing agencies. Traditionally, this involved physically visiting a bank or pension office, which often posed challenges for elderly pensioners. However, with the introduction of face authentication technology, the process has become significantly more accessible and convenient.
The face authentication method leverages the Aadhaar database of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This allows pensioners with an Android smartphone to submit their Digital Life Certificate (DLC) from the comfort of their homes.
To utilize this facility, pensioners need to download two mobile applications: the "Aadhaar Face RD" app and the "Jeevan Pramaan" app. The "Aadhaar Face RD" application supports the Jeevan Pramaan application by providing back-end processes. After installing the apps, pensioners need to follow a simple, step-by-step process:
- Operator Authentication: Open the Jeevan Pramaan app, enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and email address, and submit the details. An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to the registered mobile number and email address for verification. The app will then prompt you to scan your photo using the mobile camera.
- Pensioner Authentication: After successful operator authentication, a new page will open for pensioner authentication. The pensioner needs to enter their Aadhaar number and mobile number.
- Details Submission: Provide necessary details such as name, type of pension, PPO number, and pension account number.
- Face Scan: Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the face authentication process. Ensure proper lighting and positioning for accurate scanning.
- DLC Generation: Upon successful face authentication, the DLC will be generated and displayed on the screen, along with the Pramaan ID. An SMS containing the Pramaan ID and a link to download the certificate will also be sent to the pensioner's registered mobile number.
The last date for submission of the life certificate is November 30th. For pensioners aged 80 years and above, a special window opens from October 1st, allowing them to submit their life certificates earlier. It is mandatory to submit a life certificate to continue receiving pension payments. Failure to submit the life certificate by the deadline may result in the suspension of pension until the certificate is submitted.
Besides face authentication, pensioners can also submit their life certificates through other methods, including biometric devices, iris scanners, Video KYC, or India Post Payments Bank Gramin Dak Sevaks.
The introduction of smartphone-based face authentication marks a significant step towards enhancing the ease of living for pensioners, ensuring they can continue to access their pension benefits without unnecessary hassle. The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare encourages all pensioners to utilize this facility and complete their life certificate submission before the November 30 deadline.
