Canadian Resident Recounts Husband's Tragic 8-Hour Hospital Experience in Canada, Alleging Negligence and Preventable Death.

A 44-year-old Indian-origin man, Prashant Sreekumar, died in Edmonton, Canada, on December 22, 2025, after waiting for approximately eight hours in the emergency room at Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Sreekumar, an accountant and father of three, experienced severe chest pain while at work and was taken to the hospital by a client.

According to reports, after being triaged, Sreekumar was asked to wait in the emergency room. As the hours passed, his condition apparently worsened. Sreekumar's father, Kumar Sreekumar, stated that his son repeatedly expressed his unbearable pain, rating it as "15 out of 10," to both family and hospital staff. Despite these complaints, he was allegedly given only Tylenol and underwent an ECG, after which the family was informed that nothing significant was detected.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Sreekumar's wife recounting the ordeal, claiming that his blood pressure rose to 210 while he was in the waiting room, and that Tylenol was the only medication offered despite his "unbearable" pain. While the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified, the incident has sparked outrage and questions about the quality of care Sreekumar received.

Reportedly, nurses periodically checked Sreekumar's blood pressure, which his father said "kept going up". After waiting for over eight hours, Sreekumar was finally called into the treatment area, but he collapsed within seconds, apparently suffering a cardiac arrest.

Sreekumar is survived by his wife and three children, aged three, 10, and 14. The family isdevastated and is seeking answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death and why a patient with severe chest pain was made to wait for so long. A family friend described the loss as "huge" and called the incident shocking and unacceptable, stating, "We expect better from the hospital and the health-care system".

Grey Nuns Community Hospital is operated by Covenant Health. In a statement to Global News, Covenant Health expressed sympathy to the family but stated that they could not comment on the specifics of the case due to privacy reasons. They affirmed their commitment to patient safety and care.
