In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, veteran singer Sukhwinder Singh revealed that the globally recognized and award-winning song "Jai Ho" was originally composed for Subhash Ghai’s film, Yuvvraaj.

According to Singh, the song was intended for Ghai's movie Yaarana, but Ghai felt the song didn't quite fit the film's narrative at the time. Singh recalls Ghai saying the song was "very good, even better... sounded very decent," but that his on-screen image was too "tapori-like" or "carefree and rustic" for the song's overall feel. Ghai then asked A.R. Rahman to create another song.

Sukhwinder Singh explained that the best part about A.R. Rahman's melody in "Jai Ho" is that it was very fresh. He added, "What came from the heart reached the heart". He also expressed that he never felt that the awards he received for "Jai Ho" were personal, but rather that his country, India, had received them.

Ram Gopal Varma recounted an incident where Ghai expressed his frustration to Rahman for having Sukhwinder Singh create a tune for him, despite Ghai paying Rahman crores as his music director. Rahman responded that Ghai was paying for his name and endorsement, not just the music itself.

"Jai Ho" went on to become a massive global hit after being featured in Slumdog Millionaire, winning numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
