A bomb threat targeted the Chennai residence of Tamil actor Ajith Kumar on Tuesday, prompting an immediate police investigation. Authorities responded swiftly to the alert, deploying a bomb squad to his house located on East Coast Road (ECR) in Injambakkam. After a thorough search of the premises and surrounding area, police declared the threat a hoax, confirming that no explosives were found.
The bomb threat was received at the Director General of Police (DGP)'s office via email. The email claimed that a bomb had been planted at the actor's residence. Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender, but have not yet shared details about the sender of the threat.
This incident follows a series of similar bomb threats targeting Tamil film celebrities in recent months. Just last week, actor Arun Vijay's residence in Ekkattuthangal faced a similar threat after an email was sent to the DGP office by an unidentified individual. A full inspection was carried out, and no device was found. In October, composer Ilaiyaraaja's T Nagar studio was also targeted by a hoax bomb alert. Other prominent personalities, including Rajinikanth, Dhanush, Vijay, Trisha, and Nayanthara, have also reportedly received similar threats. Additionally, key locations in Chennai, such as the Chief Minister's residence, the Opposition leader's house, the Governor's Mansion, and major railway stations, have been subject to bomb threats.
The repeated targeting of high-profile individuals and key locations has raised concerns among residents and prompted calls for increased security measures. The Tamil Nadu police are actively working to find those behind these threats, as there has been a considerable increase in such incidents recently. Actress Sakshi Agarwal thanked the Tamil Nadu Police on October 21 for their swift response to a similar bomb threat issued to her house and office.
Ajith Kumar, known for his roles in 'Vidaamuyarchi' and 'Good Bad Ugly' this year, had taken a break from work earlier in 2025 to pursue his racing career.
