Bihar Election Results: Samrat Choudhary, BJP's Deputy CM, Takes the Lead in Tarapur Constituency.

Patna, Bihar – As the counting of votes progresses for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, early trends indicate a significant development in the Tarapur constituency. Samrat Choudhary, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and current Deputy Chief Minister, is leading in Tarapur. This constituency in the Munger district is witnessing a close contest, with Choudhary facing strong competition from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Arun Kumar Shah, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Ashish Anand, and Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Santosh Kumar Singh.

Samrat Choudhary, a seasoned politician with a notable family legacy, has previously served as Agriculture Minister and Urban Development Minister. His political career includes holding the position of BJP Bihar state president. Choudhary's current lead in Tarapur marks a crucial point in his political journey, especially as he is contesting an Assembly election after a gap of 15 years. According to his election affidavit, Choudhary has declared assets worth ₹11.3 Crore and an annual income of ₹34 Lac.

The Tarapur seat has been held by the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] since 2010. The constituency has a diverse demographic, with a significant number of Yadavs, Muslims, upper-caste individuals (Rajputs, Brahmins), Kushwahas, Sahs, and Dalits. This election is a test of BJP's ability to consolidate OBC votes against RJD's established grassroots network.

Meanwhile, in a closely watched contest in the Lakhisarai constituency, early trends initially showed another Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate, Vijay Kumar Sinha, trailing. However, later reports indicated that Sinha was leading in Lakhisarai. Sinha, who has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Lakhisarai since 2005 and also served as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from November 2020 to August 2022. He is up against Congress leader Amaresh Kumar, who he defeated in the 2020 elections.

The Bihar Assembly elections took place in two phases on November 6 and November 11. The voter turnout was remarkable, with the state recording 67.13%, the highest since 1951. The counting of votes commenced at 8:00 am on Friday across 46 centers in 38 districts. Early trends suggest that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading, crossing the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member assembly. Times Now reported the NDA leading with 155 seats.

These elections are particularly significant as they will determine whether Nitish Kumar, the current Chief Minister, retains his position. The Mahagathbandhan (MGB) is hoping to unseat the NDA, focusing on issues such as anti-incumbency and job creation.
