Jaishankar engages Qatar's leaders in talks covering bilateral relations and pressing global concerns.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Qatar's top leadership in Doha on Sunday, November 16, 2025, to discuss critical aspects of the bilateral relationship, encompassing energy, trade, and investment, alongside regional and global issues. He engaged in a meeting with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and also met with Qatar's Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Jaishankar, in a post on X, conveyed his pleasure in meeting with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, appreciating their guidance on expanding collaboration and exploring new opportunities. He noted the review of key aspects of the strategic partnership between India and Qatar, including energy, trade, investment, and people-to-people connections. He also expressed his appreciation for the exchange of views on developments in the Middle East/West Asia region, as well as broader regional and global events.

The Qatar News Agency reported that the two counterparts discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Jaishankar, in a separate post on X, mentioned his meeting with Qatar's Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and reiterated India's commitment to stronger relations, valuing his guidance on expanding collaboration and exploring new opportunities.

The discussions underscored the mutual interests in energy resources, trade and investment, marking a deepening strategic partnership between the two nations. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to fortifying India-Qatar relations and investigating new avenues for collaboration.

Earlier in October, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, visited Qatar and held meetings with Qatari leaders, including Abdulrahman Hesham Al-Sowaidi, CEO of Qatar Development Bank (QDB). Goyal expressed his satisfaction with the interest shown by Qatari businesses in the opportunities presented by the Indian economy.

In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership. They expressed satisfaction with the continued progress in trade, investment, and security cooperation, and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across all fields of mutual interest.

During a recent call, PM Modi conveyed his concern over the strikes in Doha targeting Hamas leaders and condemned the violation of Qatar's sovereignty. He also conveyed India's support for Qatar and its efforts to promote regional peace and stability, further appreciating Qatar's mediation role in the Gaza conflict, including securing a ceasefire and facilitating the release of hostages.

In 2023-24, India's bilateral trade with Qatar reached USD 14.08 billion, highlighting the economic importance of this partnership.
