Meera Vasudevan, known for her role in the Malayalam film 'Thanmathra,' recently shared details about filming an intimate scene with Mohanlal in the movie. In a recent interview on the celebrity chat show 'Red Carpet', she revealed that Mohanlal apologized to her before filming the scene, where he appeared completely nude.
'Thanmathra,' released in 2005, revolves around a man named Rameshan Nair, played by Mohanlal, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and the impact it has on his family. Meera Vasudevan plays Lekha, Rameshan's wife. The film, directed by Blessy, is considered a poignant portrayal of the disease and its effects, with many viewers finding it too heartbreaking to watch more than once.
According to Meera, the intimate scene was crucial to the narrative, as it marked the moment when Lekha begins to understand that something is wrong with her husband. In the scene, Rameshan gets distracted and inexplicably walks away to shoo a lizard on the wall during an intimate moment with his wife.
Meera revealed that many senior actresses had turned down the role due to the intimate nature of the scene. She herself was initially reluctant but was convinced by director Blessy's explanation of its importance.
Meera emphasized that the scene was more challenging for Mohanlal, as he had to appear completely nude. Before filming, Mohanlal apologized to her, expressing concern that he might make her uncomfortable. Meera also ensured that the scene was shot with a small, essential crew to maintain a comfortable environment. She stated that Mohanlal wore a petticoat before the shot and removed it right before filming. The limited crew present included Blessy, the associate cameraman, Mohanlal's makeup artist, and her hairstylist.
Some parts of the scene were censored in the final cut of the movie. Mohanlal had also spoken about the scene previously, noting that Blessy hadn't initially told him about the nudity, but it was written in the script.
Meera Vasudevan is currently starring in the Malayalam television series 'Kudumbavilakku'. News also recently surfaced about Meera Vasudevan's third divorce. She married Vipin Puthiyankam in 2024, but they separated in August 2025.
