In a significant crackdown on terror networks, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation with security forces, have busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) hideout in Pulwama district and arrested a terrorist associate. The operation, which took place in Awantipora, is considered a major success against terror activities in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in Naner Midoora, Awantipora police, along with the 42nd battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles and the 180th battalion of the CRPF, launched a cordon and search operation. During the search, they apprehended Nazir Ahmed Ganai, a resident of Ganai Mohalla Nanar, who is an active associate of the proscribed JeM.
During sustained interrogation, Ganai disclosed the location of a terrorist hideout situated within orchards belonging to him. Subsequently, the security forces uncovered and destroyed the hideout. The search of the hideout led to the recovery of two hand grenades, a detonator, and explosive-like materials, which were seized for further analysis. The hideout was destroyed on the spot in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, following established procedures.
Police officials stated that Nazir Ahmed Ganai was actively involved in providing logistical support and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition to JeM militants operating in the Tral and Awantipora areas.
Following the recovery, Police Station Awantipora registered FIR No. 257/2025 under the relevant legal sections, and further investigation is now underway. Authorities have stated that Awantipora Police remain determined to dismantle the terror ecosystem and ensure peace and security in the district.
Meanwhile, separate reports indicate that security forces have launched a search operation in the Udhampur district following information about suspicious movement in the Chigla–Balotha region of the Basantgarh area. The joint operation involves the Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. Basantgarh is known to be along a long-standing infiltration corridor frequently exploited by Pakistani militants.
