Khagaria, Bihar: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Dilip Kumar, was shot and critically injured in broad daylight in the Gangaur police station area of Khagaria district on Friday. The incident has triggered outrage and heightened political tensions in the region.
Dilip Kumar, 56, a former BJP general secretary and current member of the Mandal Working Committee, was attacked near Tribhuwan Tola Pulia, close to Bishanpur Mor. According to reports, the assailant, riding a motorcycle, ambushed Kumar and opened fire. Kumar sustained serious injuries, with the bullet hitting near his chest.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker was alone and had his face covered. Despite being shot, Kumar remained conscious briefly and managed to call his wife, alerting her to the attack. He was heard saying, "Come quickly... someone has shot me... save me…," before the call disconnected.
Local residents rushed Kumar to the Sadar Hospital in Khagaria. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a larger medical facility for intensive care. Doctors are currently attending to him, and his condition is said to be critical.
The Gangaur police have launched an investigation into the incident. Sundar Paswan, the Station House Officer (SHO), stated that a police team has been formed to identify and arrest the culprits. "The victim has not provided a statement yet. He is under treatment. Investigation is ongoing, and action will be taken," Paswan said.
Police are questioning family members and local residents, and are also examining CCTV footage from the area to gather leads. Initial investigations suggest that the attack was planned. Raids are being conducted at several places to apprehend the accused. As of now, no arrests have been made.
According to police, Kumar is a property dealer and is also involved in fish farming. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, and police are exploring all possible angles.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Dilip Kumar is known for his active involvement in political and social activities in the region. Community members and political representatives have condemned the attack and are demanding swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
This shooting follows other recent incidents of attacks on BJP leaders in Bihar. In October, a BJP leader, Vivekanand Prasad alias Bablu Yadav, was shot in Bhagalpur. In July, Surendra Kewat, a BJP leader, was shot dead in Patna. These incidents have raised concerns about the law and order situation in the state.
