The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 States and Union Territories by one week, pushing the enumeration form submission deadline to December 11, 2025. This revision exercise is being conducted with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for enrolment.
The states and union territories affected by this extension are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Registered electors in these regions now have an additional week to complete their enumeration forms and submit them to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The BLOs will then upload the data onto the ECI's ECINet portal.
The decision to extend the deadline comes amid widespread reports of booth-level officers facing immense pressure.
With the extension of the enumeration period to December 11, the ECI has also revised subsequent dates in the SIR schedule. The draft electoral roll will now be published on December 16, instead of the previously scheduled date of December 9. Consequently, the period for filing claims and objections will be from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026. The notice phase, which includes the issuance, hearings, verification, and disposal of claims and objections by Electoral Registration Officers, is scheduled to run from December 16, 2025, to February 7, 2026. The checking of the electoral roll's health parameters and the ECI's approval for final publication must be completed by February 10, 2026. The final electoral roll will be published on February 14, 2026, a week later than the original date of February 7.
The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is a crucial exercise conducted to update and purify the voter lists, ensuring that all eligible citizens are included and that the rolls are free of errors or discrepancies. The enumeration process involves the collection and digitization of voter forms. The ECI has urged all eligible citizens in the aforementioned states and union territories to utilize this extended period to complete their enumeration forms and actively participate in the revision process.
