Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in India on December 2, 2025. This launch marks a significant step for Maruti Suzuki in the electric vehicle market. Here are five key things to know about the upcoming e-Vitara:
1. Expected Price:
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is expected to be priced between ₹17 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom). For the 49kWh variants, the price is expected to range between ₹17-22.5 lakh. The larger 61kWh pack could push the price higher. This pricing positions it to compete in the mid-size electric SUV segment against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, Kia EV6 and the VinFast VF6 EV.
2. Battery and Range:
The e-Vitara will be available with two battery pack options: a 49kWh pack and a 61kWh unit. The batteries will use LFP 'blade' cells from BYD. The larger 61kWh battery pack is expected to offer a range of up to 500km on a full charge. The vehicle will be offered in front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration. Maruti Suzuki is also expected to offer three ride modes (Eco, Normal, and Sports), along with a regenerative braking system for better efficiency.
3. Power and Performance:
The e-Vitara is expected to deliver a power output between 142-172hp with torque around 192.5Nm. Overseas, both batteries are paired with a front axle-mounted electric motor, delivering up to 172bhp. While initially launching with a front-wheel-drive configuration, an all-wheel-drive version (AllGrip-e) is likely to be added at a later date. The 49 kWh pack will be offered in a two-wheel-drive configuration, producing 142 bhp and 189 Nm. The larger 61 kWh battery variant will be offered with both 2WD and 4WD configurations, with the 2WD version generating 172 bhp and 189 Nm, and the 4WD delivering a higher torque output of 300 Nm.
4. Design and Dimensions:
The design of the e-Vitara closely resembles the eVX concept that was unveiled at the Auto Expo in January 2023. The car has muscular bodywork with ample dark cladding around its base. The car is 4,275mm long, 1,800mm wide, and 1,635mm tall. It features a 2,700mm wheelbase while the ground clearance is 180mm.
5. Interior and Features:
The e-Vitara's cabin has a contemporary layout featuring a floating dual-screen setup, piano-black accents, and a layered, shelf-style dashboard. It features a two-spoke steering wheel, silver-trimmed rectangular air vents, a rotary gear controller, and seats finished in a fabric-leatherette mix. Expected features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, wireless charging, an electronic parking brake, seven airbags, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, and a Level 2 ADAS suite. The cabin is loaded with tech, including electronic parking brake, multiple driving modes, climate control, wireless charging, smartphone connectivity, and ADAS. Rear-seat space and overall comfort are enhanced by the EV's tall stance and extended wheelbase.
The e-Vitara is being built exclusively at the company's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, which will also serve as an export hub. Maruti Suzuki is also working towards setting up a fast-charging network across India's top 100 cities and opening over 1,500 EV service centers in more than 1,000 cities. The made-in-India e Vitara will also focus on international markets, with plans to export to over 100 countries. The e-Vitara will support both AC and DC fast charging.
